The new state-of-the-art Lytham Primary Care Centre will be opened at an official ceremony on Thursday 21 May 2009 at 2:30 pm by Lord Shuttleworth, Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire. The centre will open its doors to the public on Monday 01 June.
The new primary care centre has been developed by Primary Asset, part of the MedicX Group, and is a distinctive three storey building that will re-house the two existing GP practices in Lytham, Holland House Medical Centre and Fernbank Surgery.
The centre will bring together a number of community health services in the spacious and modern facility, whilst providing a base for the school and district nursing team. There will be a wide range of other services onsite including : x-ray facilities, a MedicX Pharmacy, a number of treatment rooms and a health port to accommodate visiting mobile services, such as MRI scanning and mammography.
Along with creating a more welcoming and up-to-date environment the centre will significantly improve patient access to both primary and secondary care with outpatient services, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, health education, mental health services, family planning and more being offered at the centre.
One of the main benefits to the centre will be that local residents will not have to travel far to seek medical advice as the facilities will allow some GPs to perform minor procedures in the surgery that might otherwise have meant a visit to hospital.
Kevin McGee, Director of Commissioning and Performance at NHS North Lancashire, says:
“We are extremely pleased to announce that Lytham Primary Care Centre will be holding its opening ceremony later this month, and will be ready to treat patients by 01 June.
“We would like to reiterate our sincere thanks to the residents of Lytham for their involvement and patience in developing this centre, which will be a vital asset for healthcare services in the town.”
Dr Richard Reed, Senior partner at Holland House Medical Centre, added:
“All the partners and staff at the surgery are immensely looking forward to working in the new building and we hope our patients will be delighted with this 21st Century facility.”
Ashley Heath, Director for Primary Asset commented:
“Primary Asset is delighted to have worked with NHS North Lancashire, Holland House and Fernbank Surgery to develop a state-of-the-art primary care centre for the residents of Lytham.”
Michael Jack MP, Member of Parliament for Fylde, Lancashire commented:
“Today’s opening brings 21st century primary healthcare to the heart of Lytham, I hope those who will use the centre will develop in time as much respect and affection for it as they did for Lytham hospital.”
