Workshop held to generate ideas for sculpture at new medical centre being developed in Castlecroft.
60 pupils from Castlecroft Primary School attended an inspirational design workshop last week, organised by specialist developer Primary Asset in collaboration with Bostin Arts. The purpose of the workshop was to create ideas for the design of an innovative sculpture, which will take pride of place at the entrance to the new £1.8 million Castlecroft Medical Centre in Wolverhampton, being developed by Primary Asset.
The pupils felt that a wavy, natural sculpture would offer the ideal contrast to the modern look of the medical centre. With this in mind, Bostin Arts asked the children to draw the images they would expect to see on a windy day using acetate and silver card. A host of natural designs such as flowers and leaves were drawn and then transferred onto a projected picture of the building to assess their suitability.
Karl Lewis from Bostin Arts commented:
“We were extremely impressed with the standard of the designs produced by the children and are confident that the final sculpture design will be a big surprise to all those involved in the development of the new medical centre.”
Bostin Arts plans to hold two more workshops in the near future with both older members of the local community and patients from the existing surgery, to ensure that a wide range of ideas are fed into the sculpture’s final design.
Richard Black, Director of New Business Development for Primary Asset, comments:
“The communities in which we develop primary healthcare facilities are extremely important to us. We are pleased to be working with Bostin Arts and the Castlecroft community to create a unique piece of public art. The sculpture will add an exciting element to this much needed new medical centre.”
