Construction starts on the new Castlecroft Medical Centre.
The start of work on a new £1.8 million medical centre being developed Primary Asset, in Castlecroft, Wolverhampton, has been marked at a ‘groundbreaking\\\' ceremony attended by GPs from the practice, the Chairman and Chief Executive of Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust, as well as representatives from Primary Asset.
The new Castlecroft Medical Practice will provide modern facilities for staff and patients including a spacious reception and waiting area. It will also include a children’s play area, 12 consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, a minor operations room, space for health staff such as health visitors, a district nurse team and midwife, additional offices and 42 car parking spaces. The centre will also include a piece of bespoke public art which is being commissioned through a public consultation process.
The new medical centre for the practice of Dr Wagstaff and Partners, is part of Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust’s Strategic Services Development Plan, which will bring about the largest transformation of health and social care services across the city.
The Windmill Community Centre, adjacent to the medical centre, will remain open and the car park will be upgraded providing much needed off-road parking for community centre users. In recognition of the loss of public open space, Primary Asset is also making a contribution to Wolverhampton City Council.
Richard Black, Director of New Business Development, Primary Asset, comments:
“We are pleased that after two years of working together with Wolverhampton City Council and Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocese to purchase the site, we are finally at the construction stage. It has been a great team effort and we look forward to Castlecroft having the medical facilities it deserves.”
Jon Crockett, Chief Executive of Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust, comments:
“I am delighted that the work is due to commence on Castlecroft Medical Centre. This will be the fourth new health facility developed as part of a multi-million pound investment to improve healthcare provision across the city over the next five years. The development at Castlecroft will make a real difference to patients and enable the medical team to deliver a wider range of services in a much improved environment.”
